My goal as a counselor is to create an empathetic, open-minded, and supportive space where you can uncover your natural strengths and resilience. I am deeply committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and affirming environment for people with varied identities and backgrounds, including, gender, race, sexual orientation, and culture. I believe in the power of therapy to empower clients in embracing their unique identities and lived experiences. I strive to challenge societal barriers and create space for healing, resilience, and personal growth. Specializing in anxiety disorders, trauma recovery, and relationship issues, my therapeutic approach blends cognitive behavioral therapy, strengths-based therapy, dialectic behavioral therapy, mindfulness therapy, and humanistic therapy. Throughout my learning and my commitment to being a lifelong learner, I have developed an approach grounded in cultural competence, inclusivity, advocacy, and compassion. I aim to help clients navigate challenges and thrive in a world that often feels unkind or unwelcoming. Together, we’ll build a path toward self-acceptance, resilience, and empowerment.
I received my Counselor and Human Development master’s degree from Walsh University and my bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in Education. I am profoundly dedicated to my wellness journey, embracing mindful living and offering a grounded, compassionate presence in my practice as I guide clients toward self-awareness and emotional well-being.

Hi there! My name is Abigail (Abby) and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.
My passion for counseling has been motivated by my ongoing goal of helping those who feel unseen and unheard. When human beings experience life’s ups and downs, moving forward, cultivating gratitude, or finding a positive outlook can be daunting. One thing we often experience is loneliness, but we do not have to truly be alone. I believe that the therapeutic relationship can tap into the parts of our lives that we have neglected and through talk therapy, we can gain self-awareness, increase sense of self-efficacy, develop self-care, and improve resiliency for overall well-being. My areas of interest include working with life adjustment & transitions, depression, anxiety, BIPOC community, and building self-esteem.
In session, I often gravitate towards the use of mindfulness techniques, motivational interviewing skills, and cognitive behavioral strategies, however my approach in therapy is eclectic, providing flexibility and a collaborative nature to meet the unique needs of each individual.
I am aware that beginning this process can be overwhelming and may present challenges, but how we understand ourselves and our place in the world is worth exploring! I want each individual to feel seen and heard by illuminating and celebrating differences from a respectful and culturally informed lens.
As counselors, we have the privilege of being with individuals during times of deep vulnerability and that is not something I take for granted. My hope is to create a safe and compassionate environment that encourages healing by being a consistent source of support for exploration and further understanding.
At this time I am unable to see individuals seeking support through grief and loss of a parent.
In my free time, I enjoy being present and spending time with those I love as well as traveling the world and submerging myself in new experiences!
I look forward to having the opportunity to work with you!

Hello, my name is Leah Marzilli. I recently graduated from John Carroll University and received my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a specialty in Substance Use Counseling. I also hold a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology, a Licensed Professional Counselor license, and a Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistance license. I have worked in high security prisons, residential rehabs, and community mental health.
I enjoy working with diverse populations, including adolescents and adults. I have a passion for healing and self-development through compassion, empathy, and understanding. I treat each client as a unique individual and provide treatment that addresses their specialized needs. I believe healing happens through relationship development and core identity exploration. I utilize modalities in session such as trauma time lines, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, dialectical behavioral therapy, guided meditation, visual imagery, grounding skills, and self-care.
When I’m not at work you might find me outside walking my pups, cooking, binging true crime documentaries, or hanging with my family. I love to get active just as much as I enjoy lounging and relaxing. I am a big advocate for self-care, so I like using my down time to sneak a nap in or do an at home facial.

Hi there! My name is Melissa and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and am Perinatal Mental Health Certified . I am excited to join Ebb & Flow Counseling and continue to provide clinical services to members of our wonderful community!
With over 10 years of counseling experience, I have found that the most significant and impactful skill in therapy is the ability to be authentically engaged in the counseling relationship. I strive to bring this authenticity to both my personal and professional life on a daily basis. I am acutely aware of the courage it can take for an individual to come to therapy; so with that, I attempt to provide a consistently safe, supportive and encouraging environment. I have extensive experience working with adolescents as they cope with the challenges of exploring their identities, while managing pressures from family, school and peers. I have special interests in working with the LGBTQ community, working with young adults and individuals striving to manage anxiety, depression and transitions in their lives. I utilize skills and tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I provide individuals with an understanding of the connection between body, mind and soul and work to create healthy balance in their lives.
In my personal life, most of my time is spent living life through the eyes of my adventurous and incredibly audacious young daughter. I love everything local and enjoy exploring Cleveland restaurants and events throughout the city.

I graduated from the Master of Arts in Counseling and Art Therapy program at Ursuline College in 2012. Throughout my career I have gained experience in both individual and group therapy in the following therapeutic settings: schools, homes, virtual, clinical and hospital settings.
My approach to counseling is eclectic and person centered, I strive to approach others with unconditional positive regard and authenticity. I practice evidence based techniques pulled from the following philosophies: positive psychology, DBT, CBT, ACT, and the belief that engaging in expressive arts can heal us, help us to explore our inner world and generally improve our quality of life. I encourage others to: use art as therapy, to visual journal, to write creatively and to use music to explore their creative practices. I believe the quote “that change is the only constant in life” and I love to support others through these life adjustments no matter how “big” or “small.”
My areas of interest include: life transitions/liminal phases, building self esteem, anxiety, depression, helping others build emotional intelligence, helping parents become emotional coaches to their children, increasing the use of healthy coping skills, disrupting habits that no longer serve us, effective communication, compassion fatigue, and acknowledging that understanding emotions and building mental health is a lifelong process.
My time outside of counseling is best spent with family and friends. I enjoy playing New York Times puzzles, reading, listening to podcasts, doing yoga, meditating, cooking/baking, taking care of my 2 kids and 2 cats, going to restaurants, seeing live music, and making art.

Hello, I’m J. Subsinsky (he/him). I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPCC), and Registered Art Therapist (ATR). My mission is to guide clients on a transformative journey where we bring unconscious material to light, and work collaboratively to reach profound levels of self-awareness, compassion, and acceptance so that individuals may access a state of inner harmony to navigate life as their authentic selves with a tranquil heart.
I have a deep affinity for working with creative and introspective adults seeking to understand themselves. Together, we explore not only the presenting issues but also address underlying patterns of thinking and behavior that have contributed to these issues. My specialization of therapy services extends to addressing symptoms related to past trauma, anxiety, depression, loss, and adjustment difficulties. My approach to treatment is individualized, tailoring treatment to an individual’s unique needs and preferences. I value client-clinician collaboration and prioritize client-empowerment throughout every step of our therapeutic journey. In my practice, I blend an eclectic tapestry of cohesive therapeutic perspectives, including a trauma-informed lens, person-centered care, Jungian, Gestalt, and Existentialist perspectives. Additionally, I incorporate evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Processing Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, forming a versatile toolkit that empowers individuals to heal, rewrite their life-narratives, and rediscover an inner resilience that can lead them to a more liberated, fulfilling life. This unique fusion is further enriched by the expressive power of Art Therapy, which holds a special place in my practice. Art Therapy is not restricted to those with artistic backgrounds or a strong interest in art, but serves as a powerful tool, for anyone, to access their unconscious mind. I employ the psycho-kinetic imagery model, utilizing visual art, creative writing, and mindful movement to help clients overcome, or work with, their own creative barriers and resistance.
My professional journey has led me through diverse mental health landscapes. I have experience working in community mental health, where I focused on the treatment of PTSD in clients with co-occurring substance use disorders. I have provided therapeutic support in a residential setting for individuals grappling with eating disorders and co-occurring mental health concerns, and facilitated art therapy services for individuals and groups of various mental health diagnoses.
Beyond my professional commitments, I am an artist myself. I find immense joy engaging in the creative process, through collage, painting, and experimental filmmaking. My passion for exploration extends to collecting used books, immersing myself in art museums, indulging in classic Star Trek episodes, and cherishing moments with my partner and our Sphynx cat, Roscoe.
I’m excited to embark on this therapeutic journey with you! Together, we’ll navigate the depths of self-discovery and healing, utilizing the transformative power of art and psychotherapy.

Hi, I’m Ellen and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and working towards my Art Therapy License at Ebb & Flow Counseling. I have earned my master’s degree in Counseling and Art Therapy from Ursuline College, and I have a BA from Kent State University in Human Development and Family Studies.
As a therapist, I believe my role is to walk alongside you through life’s challenges while guiding you towards your own power and truth. My passion is to help clients to live life fully and authentically. Some of my areas of interest include working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, and identity development. My approach to therapy is client-centered, and I believe that as the client, you are the expert on your own experience, and therapy should be collaborative as we work together to create a plan for your unique goals. Having experienced therapy as a client myself, I understand that it can be intimidating, so I work to create a safe space for you to express yourself with no judgment. As a therapist, I like to use elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness techniques, and psychoeducation, but always strive to use what best fits each unique client. In addition to counseling, I also love to use art therapy. I believe creativity is a conduit for healing and art therapy can encourage emotional release while empowering the client to express themselves. You don’t have to be an artist to experience the benefits of art therapy; in art therapy it is all about the process over the product.
When I’m not at work, you can find me enjoying time with friends and family, reading fantasy books, cuddling with my cat, or creating art. I look forward to meeting you and working with you to reach your goals!

Hi there! I am Meghan Gayter and I’m a Licensed Social Worker. I am so excited to join the Ebb & Flow team and to be a part of serving the Cleveland community. I am a firm believer that therapy can be for anyone, but I realize that starting your journey can be the hardest part! My hope is to provide a safe, open and collaborative space, as I feel building a compatible therapist/client relationship is the first step in your journey to personal growth.
Before joining the Ebb & Flow team, I graduated from Ohio University with a BA in hospitality. It was during my own personal journey that I decided to make a switch from serving the event world, to serving the complicated world of teenagers in a community outreach position. I became passionate about working with adolescents, and went on to pursue my Masters in Social Work from the University of Illinois Chicago. Since then, I have worked primarily with the teenage population, specializing in topics such as sexual abuse, anxiety and depression, self-esteem, self-harming, family issues and women’s issues. I utilize a strength-based approach in order to build self-esteem and empowerment, while also incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Trauma-informed practices. I think it’s important to work together to find what works best for you, at whatever pace feels comfortable. I look forward to continuing to serve the teen population, while also working with people of all ages on similar issues!
In my free time, I also enjoy working on my own growth! I love trying new things and exploring new hobbies. Currently, you can find me picking and pressing flowers for different art projects. I’m also passionate about cooking and experimenting with creating new recipes in the kitchen. When I’m not diving into a new recipe, I’m planning my next vacation, preferably somewhere off the beaten path.

Hello, I’m Leah and I’ve been working at Ebb and Flow since January of 2020. Through my own life experiences, I understand the courage it takes to be vulnerable, which only strengthens my commitment in providing a gentle and safe space for you. I am here to offer you acceptance, understanding, compassion, and lightheartedness if you need it! I offer an individualized approach, utilizing a variety of evidenced based techniques.
I have experience working with anxiety, depression, life transitions, interpersonal relationship struggles and self esteem, but one of my biggest passions is parenthood, whether it’s trying to become one or being in the mess of it! Fertility struggles complicated my journey to becoming a mother. Having dealt with the grief, uncertainty, and loss of control has enabled me to offer a supportive and understanding space for those facing similar challenges. As a parent, I have dealt with the notion of “not feeling like I’m enough” as well as the unrealistic expectations placed on parents which has motivated me to help validate and empower you.

I understand starting therapy for the first time, or starting with someone new can be an intimidating process so I strive to provide a safe space of zero judgment to allow authenticity to flourish. I love to support clients in exploring all aspects of their lives through a compassionate lens. I work with children and adults using a client centered approach combined with mindfulness techniques, CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), psychoeducation and narrative theories.

I have been certified through the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics on developmental trauma and the brain, and have completed Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training. I specialize in helping teens and adults heal from intimate partner violence, childhood abuse, religious trauma, and queer trauma. I’m particularly passionate about supporting the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
We all have shame. I believe that shame points us to our biggest hurts, and our best opportunities for healing. I think we’re all doing our best to feel our feelings, but so many things get in our way – trauma, stigma, insecurity, difficult relationships. The strategies I bring to my clients are aimed at experiencing our lives more fully, by establishing healthy boundaries, grieving past trauma, and connecting to the things and relationships that bring us joy. Despite the traumatizing world we live in, there’s so much hope and joy to be found in this life, and I hope to help you connect with your best self.

Aino Wheler
(She/Her/Hers)
LPC
Hi, I’m Aino (Eye-na) Wheler, and I’m thrilled to be at Ebb & Flow Counseling. I recently earned my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from John Carroll University and I hold a BA from Princeton University. I spent two decades in nonprofits before pursuing counseling as my true career.
Life comes at us fast. Sometimes it’s hard, sometimes it’s scary, sometimes it’s beautiful – and sometimes it’s all of those things all at once. I believe in the power of therapy to help us slow down, take a breath, and find some ease in those moments.
My approach to therapy is client-centered and tailored to the person in front of me. My work integrates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, while never losing sight of the larger context of our lives. We will work together to set individualized, realistic goals – after all, you are the expert on your own life.
I have experience working with substance use disorders, trauma, anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder, and a particular interest in issues of identity, moments of life transition, and grief and loss of all kinds. I also believe that everyone can benefit from counseling: my goal as your therapist is to walk alongside you as you navigate life’s challenges, both large and small.
When I’m not at work you can find me with my nose in a book, digging in my flower garden, doing enthusiastic but uncoordinated yoga, or snuggling with (in my biased opinion) the best cat ever.
I look forward to working with you!
Aino is provisionally licensed and is supervised by Meghan Ritter, LPCC-S.

Aaron Knapp
(He/Him/His)
LPC
Hello, I’m Aaron Knapp (he/him), and I’m excited to join Ebb & Flow Counseling as a Licensed Professional counselor. I hold a BS in Psychology from The Ohio State University, and I have my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from John Carroll University.
I believe that empathy, understanding, and collaboration form the foundation for an effective therapeutic relationship. I help support and encourage my clients in setting their own goals that are achievable, realistic, and will have the most impact on their lives to help them feel better or get closer to their values. Our work together may integrate elements of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Ultimately, the therapeutic approach used is what best fits each individual client’s needs, strengths, and goals.
I have experience working with depression and anxiety and a particular interest in working with couples, adolescents, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, and issues of identity. My goal as a therapist is to create a safe, warm, accepting environment where clients will feel comfortable enough to talk about whatever is on their mind. Therapy is not just a place to address challenges big or small but also a place to come when the car of life just needs a tune-up.
In my free time, I enjoy going to the theater, singing loud enough to give the neighbors a free concert, walking around the Cleveland Museum of Art, trying new restaurants, and going to drag shows and movies.
Thank you for taking this step towards supporting yourself. I look forward to working with you!
